Window repair in Amersham:

On first inspection, this casement with glazing bars and roundels didn’t appear to be in too awful condition. However, insect and fungal attack on timber can be deceptive. The core of the timber can be eaten away to mush and powder whilst the outside and paint remain intact.

What appeared to be a typical repair soon revealed itself to be a comprehensive rebuild of the sash.

After a quick assessment, it was still better to go ahead with the repair. The home owner, a dedicated conservationist and enthusiast for Amersham Old Town’s architecture, was also keen to preserve as much of the window as possible.
