Curved Bay Repair near Gerrards Cross: Part 3

With the new sill in place, would turn our attention to the sashes.

Curved sills aren’t uncommon, but curved sashes are rarely seen.  These sashes were also fairly large to the joinery was doing a fair amount of heavy lifting.

The “L” brackets used in a previous attempt to keep one of the sashes together, unfortunately, had only served to speed up the rot inside the joint. This particular sash had been painted shut for a while, but we were asked if we could get it opening again as part of the repair.

We took a few minutes to ensure the sashes were properly supported and would finish in the correct size and shape at the end of the repair.

After repairing using Accoya to rebuild the mortice and tenons, we re-puttied and primed the sashes, ready to be refitted.
