Breakfast Bar

The breakfast bar is made from 2 x pieces of African mango wood both pieces were chosen because they had a natural curve at the ends, so joining the 2 x ends together (using 3 x lap dovetail biscuits) to make the 90 degree turn we wanted, to create the illusion of one whole piece.

African mango is the tradition and main timber used for joinery in Eastern Africa i.e. for bed, furniture etc all the windows and doors in Lamu and Zanzibar are made using mango. It’s very different to other fruit trees and is more like mahogany to work with which might be because it was originally only found in rainforests before mango farming started, they can grow as tall and as wide as any native tree in the UK.
