The hardwood sill of this set of French doors was severely rotten to the point where the central section could be pulled out by hand. A combination of the outside ground level and a poorly fitting weather bar meant that it didn’t ever get an opportunity to dry out.

After removing the old sill, we set about making a new one on-site using Accoya, which will perform much better than the hardwood original in wet conditions. We also did away with the weather bar design, instead using a more robust rebate to seal the doors.

With the new acetylated pine cill bedded and jointed, we were left with a more weatherproof and resilient set of doors at a fraction of the cost of replacement.

This grade 2 listed building needed a hardwood new sill and the doors need rehanging.The moulded glazing bars were made from copper and not wood.The biggest challenge was both jambs had split and expanded ,this was caused by 1 inch vertical metal rod being installed 200 years ago as a modern material (at the time) tenon.This of course rusted over the years and then expanded to double its original size damaging the jambs from the inside.

Sash Repair On Listed Building In High Wycombe

This rotten casement sash needed a whole new bottom rail made in Accoya.The bottom rail needed to be be re-joined using a mortise and tenon joint at both ends.A new mortise joint needed to be made at one of the ends cos the stile at the bottom had also rotted.

2 x dormer window repairs in Maidenhead

2 x mock gothic arched dormer windows on a listed building in Maidenhead (mid Victorian). The sill needed fully replacing along with both lower jambs and just to make things worse both casement sashes were badly rotten too.Total time approx. 4 days per window was required to do the repairs fully using Accoya.

Conservatory repair in Maidenhead

This is a 20 year old sappili hardwood conservatory that required multiple patch repairs to the sills and bottom rails.All the repairs were carried out using Accoya (50 years guaranteed life) .Both corner posts needed fully replacing as they had been made using plywood and are now looking like new with their new Accoya facing .

Back to Marcos again this weeks to repairs the bottom sill on his conservatory.This was a mitred sill repairs with new glazing bead all the way around using MS Polymer as the sealant, the sill was made using pressure treated joinery standard pine .The trick behind this type of sill repair is to hide the join underneath the beading so that the point where the new and the old meet is covered up and protected.It is cheaper and quicker this way and so saves the customer money.

This 1980’s circle window in Maidenhead was rotten at the bottom needing 1/2 inch new veneer pieces to be added , over lapping at 22.5% intervals so that no end grain is showing .All the repair work was carried out using Accoya so that it will never rot again .

15 year old windows repaired in Marlow

Nearly all 30 of these windows needed repairing with new external Accoya margin planks , some of them need new sills too and completely new glazing bar were need on the french door Georgian glazing bars as they had all rotted to nothing.The windows were only 15 years old and supplied and fitted by a sliding sash window company based in Windsor , these were guarenteed to be made in Oak but in reality were really made in pine .Worth noting that this is a common story and that this company is still trading today , so be careful.
