One of the great challenges with windows in older buildings is that in a single window you can find yourself working with a broad range of materials; prepared wood for the window frames, structural timber, glass, brick, mortars, plasters, insulation, leadwork, tiles, paint and putty. You often get to see how a building has been adapted over its life.

This repair was to a very rotten window in a building which was originally timber framed. The frame had later been faced with brick which was a common late Victorian practice. Later on, the brick had been rendered and decorative wooden planks fitted to give the impression of the original timber frame. Closer inspection showed that what appeared to be the head of the window frame was in fact the top plate of the timber frame and was integral to the structure of the building. Replacing the window wasn’t going to be as simple as removing the rotten window and fitting a new one.

It was necessary to joint the Accoya stiles of the new window into the existing top plate and then fit a new sill in the same acetylated wood, effectively building the replacement window in-situ. It was then possible to repair the faux timber beams and re-render the outside before finally re-glazing the window.

This dormer window on a listed building in Maidenhead was only 20 years old and was completely rotten .The whole of the sill needed replacing as well as both jambs and both barge board all in Accoya.

Conservatory repair in Maidenhead

This is a 20 year old sappili hardwood conservatory that required multiple patch repairs to the sills and bottom rails.All the repairs were carried out using Accoya (50 years guaranteed life) .Both corner posts needed fully replacing as they had been made using plywood and are now looking like new with their new Accoya facing .

Meeting Rail Repair Maidenhead

Damaged by wear and tear the rebate on this listed building sliding sash window meeting rail need to be replaced. Each sash weighed 50kg making to job much harder due to the sashes needing to be taken downstairs to be worked on outside .The replacement wood was in Accoya and the main purpose of the work was to make a perfect fit to halt cluster flies from getting into the house .

Veranda Linden Avenue Maidenhead

Loaded on van at treatment plant

12 sashes and a 4 metre long “L” shaped veranda being loaded up at the treatment plant ready to be installed at Linden Avenue in Maidenhead. The job with involve having all the sills fully replaced in Accoya as well as new casement sashes and a new veranda.
